Having survived the rigors of another academic semester as my alter-ego working stiff self, I’m now looking forward to a summer filled with music. The fun starts on Monday night when I get to wallow in the pleasure that is a live, in-person Sloan show. The boys from Toronto-by-way-of-Halifax arrive at the Cats Cradle in three short days, and I can’t wait to see them rock the house again. Years ago my former band opened for them there, and it’s still a great memory. The next night, down the road in Raleigh, I’ll be seeing two loud, old school rock ‘n’ roll bands: Matt Mays and El Torpedo along with the Dead String Brothers. Oddly, Matt Mays and co. hail from Halifax, NS, like Sloan in their youth. They sound like early Neil Young & Crazy Horse on crack…or downers, depending on the song. But great stuff and a killer live show, from what I’m told on good authority. Dead String Bros. hail from Detroit Rock City and sound akin to mid-period Stones (i.e., good period Stones).

So, two nights in a row of great music to get me pumped about recording some new tunes myself and finishing some old ones! I plan to mix the full album’s worth of material I currently have on tape before summer’s end, as the new band gets formed (I hope). But there may be some last minute changes. Via this site you’ll be able to hear how various songs come together along the way. Stay tuned, people…
